Borough
Village postmaster Edmund Bickell was one of the two enumerators.  He used High Borough, and Low Borough in place of Burgage in his part of the census.

What's in a name
In parts of the census, Arthur was spelt "Aurthur," and Martha was spelt "Marth."

A life on the ocean wave ....
There is one keel listed, being moored in the Haven with the Lawtey family aboard. In the listing, ship's boy John Key takes preference over the captain's wife!

Family Life
The Altofts of Sluice Farm had 10 children living at home. George was the oldest at 16, and Frederick the youngest at 9 months.

Can't remember ...
75 year old Christopher Gray may or may not have been married, or widowed. His marital status is given as "Not known."

Good zzzs!
"Zerilda" and "Zilah" both appear as female names in the census!

Foreigners ....
No-one was born in foreign lands.  Emma Lancton though, was born in Ireland, the only person from outside of England!

Oldest Person
Edward Westoby was 86, and lived as a boarder in West End with John Barratt the farmer and his family. 3 women were 85, Sarah Robinson (pauper), Dinah Waddingham, and Sarah Chafer.

Youngest Person
Amelia Herringshaw from High Burgage was just 7 days old when the census was taken. She was the daughter of gardener William Herringshaw and his wife Louisa.
