Winteringham as it was over 50 years ago!
Lots to pore over in this Scunthorpe Telegraph aerial photo of the village. At the top right,
the old village almshouses are still in existence on the corner of Cliff Road and High Burgage; The butcher’s house still stands at Gate End (the site of Jubilee Gardens now); In
the foreground are the Manor House and the Slaughter House. Dick Newbourne’s “Humber View” house is also in the bottom right corner opposite Teal’s shop, and the bungalows on
School Road are under construction! Note - an almost total lack of cars and lorries, with not a single one parked by the side of the road!
